Nuku’alofa, Tonga - The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources continues its commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and public service with the launch of the ‘Toe Talatalanoa Overseas Program’. This initiative aims to address key areas of improvement and engage with Tongan communities abroad.

This initiative aims to connect with Tongans living abroad- to share updates, and provide important information, and support from the ministry. This includes explaining how land processes work, addressing concerns, and working closely with Tonga’s High Commission offices overseas to make land-related transactions easier.

Over the past year, the Ministry has identified essential areas requiring enhancement, including internal staff relationships, procedural clarity, and public insights. This program is designed with two primary goals: ‘To rebuild public trust and to enhance ministry services’.

In pursuit of these objectives, the Ministry has implemented a series of initiatives, including church services, internal retreats, character-building workshops, television and radio programs, and the Toe Talatalanoa Overseas program, which involves visiting Tongan communities overseas.

The Toe Talatalanoa Overseas Program commences in Australia and will later extend to New Zealand and the United States of America. The initial phase, Talatalanoa Australia, commenced in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, concluding in Brisbane.

This is led by the Honourable Minister- Lord Tu’i’afitu, accompanied by key officials including Lady Tu’i’afitu, Deputy CEO Viliami Folau, Chief Draughtsman Sione Leki, Senior Urban Planner Makakaufaki Matekitonga, Registration Officer Warrick Vea, and Assistant Registration Officer Amipelela Tokelau. The visit will span from December 5th to 22nd, 2023.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources remains committed to fostering stronger ties with overseas Tongans and ensuring their rights and concerns regarding land issues are acknowledged and addressed.
